Research paper on an electronic submillimetric airborne droplets detection and measurement.
The document showcase technical results of a sensor that exploits projected electric fields to detect water droplets dispersed as an aerosol.
This sensor has been used in 2020 at the beginning of the Pandemic to make a comparative measurement of some common face masks. Since SARS-CoV-2 virus was suspected and then confirmed to be also carried via airborne small droplets ejected when breathing and speaking, detecting such droplets could lead to an important quantitative information as a proxy to know the likelyhood an infected person could spread the virus.
On a separate paper it has been demonstrated the ability of different face masks to reduce said spread of water based airborne droplets thanks to the use of the sensor presented in this research paper.
